As wisdom teeth grow, they may not have enough room to properly emerge into the mouth. If this happens, they can become impacted—or stuck—and cause severe pain that gets worse over time. Wisdom teeth extraction is the surgical removal of wisdom teeth or third molars. It is one of the most common dental procedures performed today, and you can have it done with our in-house oral surgeon.
People have their wisdom teeth removed because they're impacted, meaning they haven't had enough room to fully break through the gumline. Some of the most common symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth include swelling around your jaw, pain when biting down, and frequent headaches.
Your dentist will first put numbing gel on your gums to reduce the needle's pain and make the extraction less painful. The oral surgeon will instruct you to take an over-the-counter medicine one hour before the procedure and may also prescribe antibiotics before or after the extraction. After the wisdom tooth extraction, the dentist will provide you with a list of post-up instructions for you to recover well at home.
